Group Metropolitan were engaged to replace the current 2N Vertiv UPS configuration at the the global headquarters of a key financial client on Canary Wharf.
The project required careful logistical planning to complete without causing any disruption or loss of services to this fully operational “Mission Critical” building.
It was also requested tha halfway through the project we also supply supply 2N UPS power to another Critical Project being carried out by others within the building, that was dependent on Group Metropolitan’s success.
The client brief was the phased changeover of UPS systems 1 & 2 and the complete removal of the 3rd UPS which was deemed surplus to requirements.
Phase 1 saw the isolation of the first 3x 90Net 800kVA units Vertiv UPS and associated batteries, the Removal of the 2000A Package Substation/Input LV Panel [retaining the MV transformer] and 2000A UPS Output panel, the removal of all associated interlinking BusBar.
Once the Strip-out was complete, AnordMardix were instructed to provide the New 2000A Package Substation/Input LV Panel and carry out full maintenance of the MV transformer. A new 2000A UPS Output panel and associated Busbar links. From the PSS and the UPS Output panel there are 3 existing Eaton Busbars systems which rise through the building delivering Power & Lighting, Mechanical Power, and UPS essential power. AnordMardix manufactured transition pieces to enable the reconnection of these Busbars to their new Busbar and enabling connection back onto their respective switch Panels.
The existing AVK Generator PLC logic was uploaded into the new PSS/Input Switch Panels so if in the case of loss of power, the panels would act in the exact way as the existing.
The 3x Vertiv UPS Modules were replaced by 2x Schneider Galaxy GVX750K1500HS Modules in parallel, utilising 400 DEKA HR5500 Batteries.
As part of the project Group Metropolitan had to complete the disconnect, decommission and eventual strip out of UPS 3 located on Level 32. This required staged migration of busbars which feed down the building from UPS 3 on to the new UPS 1 & 2 Systems. This required more AnordMardix iBar transition pieces and coupling busbar runs and the removal of Bus coupler sections which link UPS 3 to UPS 1 & 2 respectively.
Once System 1 was complete and the full Level 4 & Level 5 commissioning successfully witnessed, the building was transferred over from System 2 on to the New Galaxy System 1 and the process began again.
The completion of system 2 also enabled for a full building IST to be completed, and then the complete strip out and removal of UPS 3.
The project also saw the installation of a new Schneider PMS system, BMS upgrades, Generex Battery monitoring system, Variable speed controllers installed to the ventilation/extract system and all ductworks associated with the Switch Rooms & Battery rooms being cleaned by the Group Metropolitan Mechanical team.
After the installation of the various interlinking busbars for systems 1 & 2 and removal of Busbars and cabling for UPS 3, the Group Metropolitan Fabric team fully replaced and certificated all the firestopping and redecorated all walls and floors within the Level 4 Switch Rooms, UPS rooms and battery rooms.
The projects KPI’s and goals that were set out at the beginning of the project were all met, and Group Metropolitan successfully achieved Completion on the 25th November 2022, and has acclaimed plaudits and praise from a very satisfied Client.
